Did You Know?
Did you know that East Cobb Middle School has a Food Pantry? The Food Pantry housed at ECMS assists families located primarily in our East Cobb/Wheeler cluster. Where is the Food Pantry located? The pantry was moved to the 6th grade annex at the beginning of the school year. It is a much bigger space with shelving needed to store non-perishables. In December, a generous community member donated a deep freezer so that we can store frozen goods as well. How does the Food Pantry get stocked? The PTSA Community Outreach Committee organizes a food drive at ECMS at the beginning of the school year. Throughout the year, donations from neighborhood food drives, churches and business sponsors in the community replenish the Food Pantry. What kind of foods does the Food Pantry stock? We currently have non-perishables to help families in need. We have everything from breakfast foods (oatmeal/cereal) to peanut butter, powdered milk, canned meats and pastas. We also have snack type food for students. Who has access to the Food Pantry? Anyone who lives in our community as long as they have a child in the Cobb Country School District. How does a family gain access to the Food Pantry? If you, or someone you know, are in need of grocery assistance, please contact your school social worker. Those families at ECMS may contact Monica Bright, our School Social Worker at (770) 578-7280 or via email at [email protected] What does the Food Pantry need at this time? The biggest needs at this time are canned meals (spaghettios, ravioli, etc.), laundry detergent, feminine supplies, toilet paper and frozen meals. Reusable grocery bags are needed as well! How can I help? Drop off your donations between 9:00 and 3:00 in the ECMS Front Office. Organize a food drive in your neighborhood or Scout troop. Run the Funny Socks to Stock 5K at ECMS on March 19th. 50% of the proceeds will go toward the ECMS Food Pantry. How do our students benefit from the Food Pantry? The food pantry provides an avenue for our students to give back to the community and fosters a sense of community service at East Cobb Middle School. It also provides the opportunity to develop job skills such as sorting and stocking.
